An ageing central data centre contained equipment that had reached the end of its life. The purpose of some systems was unclear, making it difficult to determine what should be retained, replaced or retired.
The organisation also needed infrastructure capable of supporting new communications and collaboration services across its offices.
Programme leadership coordinated the consolidation and refresh across technical teams and suppliers. Redundant equipment was decommissioned, components including switches and media gateways were replaced and the remaining infrastructure was streamlined. Cabling was tidied as part of the work.
The completed work left a simpler, better organised estate, prepared to support the next generation of workplace services.
